Racial Competition

Is your race better than mine? That is the question that runs through the minds of many cultures. People have debates about this subject. They compete about past calamitous quandaries that caused their ancestors to become formidable and strong. These people maintain a certain persona that appears presumptuous. Some cultures actually think that their culture is better than another. This type of ignorant ideology leads to numerous ignorant perceptions upon life. They refuse to marry the opposite race, they secretly think they are superior to other races, and they secretly talk badly about other races and their culture. Here at Carolina, we as students are suppose to be a body of people that wants to learn about other people's culture. We should strive to understand people's background. We should not try to compete against each other. We are suppose to be a family. It is time to stop acting as if we are gods! We need to come down to the real world. This isn't Kansas anymore. We have real problems and conflicts, and it would be so much easier if we get OFF our pedestals and help each other through these hard times. There should be no racial competition because we are all mixed with some other race -whether we embrace it or not! We are ALL God''s children: we are all EQUALLY fearfully and wonderfully made by our Creator! Just get over it!

  1. We have to realize that we can embrace other races and cultures while still staying true to our own. Marrying a person of another race does not make you a sell out to your own race, it simply means you have the courage to love someone inspite of obvious physical and sometimes cultural differences. The idea that acceptance leads to the loss of culture or identity is an idea of ignorance that halts the progress that could be made concerning race relations. You should not allow your race to define you, instead it should be a single part of all the many characteristics that make you who you are.

  2. I also think it is quite rediculous for someone to think that their race is better, smarter, more athletic, and higher than the others. Like Chavez said, we were all created equally and it's time for us to man up and face the facts that we all deserve to be here and live amongst each other. Not only is being racist wronge, it's just another way for hate to take the best of someone. I honestly don't understand why anyone would stoop to this level and think they are right...simply mindboggling.

  3. Well said. What's sad is that by maintaining ethnocentric ideals and refusing to appreciate what other races and cultures have to offer, we're only limiting ourselves and the potential of our society. We could learn so much from one another if only we were willing. A lot of people let fear and misconceptions keep them from learning about what's unfamiliar, and the result is a society full of ignorant, closed-minded people who essentially know nothing about one another...

  4. I think that people who think that they are better than the next person because of their race are ignorant. I think that people who embrace other cultures and ethnic backgrounds makes them have a better character and makes them an overall better person. For people who marry outside of their race are courageous. Where will this world end up if people continue to think that they are better than the next person based on race....scary thought!

  5. I think you said it best with the word ignorance. Sadly it's a tradition of ignorance in the U.S. and other parts of the world. Generations are choosing to accept history as the present instead of making efforts to change the world and history. We need to accept each other with love and compassion and work together for a common goal of living in peace. It's hard to see how the older generations live in hatred and discrimination of other races and for many, their views won't change as long as they live. As for us, we can change the world.

  6. I agree with the comments above. Everyone pretty much explained it well. We need to embrace each other's differences and flaws. We are not perfect- we are simply human.
